So far failed to confirm the assumption that morning glory is Antiochene plant from the time of the Aztecs, known as "tlitliltzin". Substance use ipomea in divination and healing rituals been documented since the late colonial period.
Morning glory was first botanically described by Carl Linnaeus. Since that time, bindweed morning glory was repeatedly described under other names. The process of artificial cultivation of ipomea led to external changes plants, as well as to the creation of new varieties, which are considered, as previously described species.
Many inexperienced shamans, growers and breeders often confuse the morning glory plant called ololiuqui (Turbina corymbosa). This fact was the reason that the seeds of ipomea often mistakenly called ololiuqui.

Morning glory - a climbing plant that can grow up to 3 metres in length (height). Leaves ipomea heart. The first two leaves that develop from the young shoots of ipomea covered the so-called "mesh small cracks". This characteristic of young plants of ipomea is a sure way to determine the type of seedlings.
In the Mexican tropics, bindweed morning glory flower all year round. The morning glory can often be seen in full bloom in February or March. In temperate zones, where bindweed morning glory grows only as annuals, the flowering period falls between July and October (depending on the cultivar of ipomea). Flowers ipomea growing in the wild form, have a brilliant purple color and grow not more than 8 cm in width. Flowers ipomea cultural varieties can grow more than 10 cm, and have a blue, pink or white. Flowers ipomea unfold in the morning and close to dusk (often after about four hours). Seeds ipomea black, oblong-shaped, from 7 mm to 8 mm in length and about 4 mm in width.

    Effects of ipomea

Consumption (chewing) seeds ipomea can cause such deep side effects as nausea, vomiting, malaise. These effects are the result of insolubility in water alkaloids and other chemicals found in the seeds. The least amount of side effects was recorded during the use of the extract on the basis of crushed seeds ipomea. Extracts from seeds of ipomea have different hallucinogenic effects. Most people in the West who experimented with seeds of ipomea, as a rule, have no desire to repeat the experiment.
